They’re both young, single, and on their way to stardom.

So it was perhaps inevitable that Leighton Meester and Selena Gomez would become firm friends as they worked on their first big feature film in Monaco.

In a break from filming Monte Carlo yesterday the giggling pair demonstrated their own special handshake – giving a thumbs up, clasping alternative hands and shaking on it

The two were then overcome by their laughter, as they celebrated the success of the move.

Selena is just 17, but replaced Nicole Kidman as lead character Grace when the studio decided to make the film more youthful.

Despite her tender age Selena has been a professional actress since she was seven, starring in The Wizards Of Waverly Place and films like Spy Kids 3-D,  all aimed at a pre-teen audience.

But she has yet to make the transition to mainstream movie star.

Likewise Leighton made her name in Gossip Girl, but is now attempting to move on to the big screen.

The three actresses star alongside former Home And Away star Luke Bracey, who has been filming steamy kissing scenes with Leighton.

Selena posted a new note in her facebook to say hi and keep us updated from Budapest. She’s currently filming her new upcoming movie “Monte Carlo” and just started yesterday. She also talked about her website (www.selenagomez.com), her clothing line “Dream Out Loud” and that she would be back to the US on July for the premiere and promotion of her movie, Ramona and Beezus.

Hey Everyone–

I just wanted to send you all an update from Budapest. I finally started filming yesterday for Monte Carlo the past two to three weeks have been learning how to play polo and getting my British accent just right. The cast is amazing and I am so ready to get this project started. Budapest is absolutely gorgeous and the people here are very friendly. I do miss home a lot though and will be ready to get back to America when the project is over, I feel like I have been gone forever.

I have also been working on my second album every weekend and should have it to you guys before the year ends, I cannot wait for you guys to here this album. I think we might be doing a couple more concerts here in Europe while I am still out here but, nothing has been confirmed yet I will let you guys know as soon as I know for sure. I have been getting updates about how the record has been doing overseas and I guess things have been successful so I just wanted to Thank You all so much for supporting the album, I hope to come play some songs for you soon.
